I'm constantly trying to figure out exactly what is “goodness.”  What is essential.  Who are we anyway.  I'm told that there is scientific evidence showing that all matter in the universe exists in a web of connection and constant influence.  That quantum effects occur in the world of the apparently tangible solid static.  And that such an idea tends to overturn principles held true since the 17^th century, and challenges the belief that we are living in an indifferent universe, one populated by things utterly separate and unengaged.

Ok, so if we're all not just a collection of isolated objects, and if academic researchers are to be attended to at all, perhaps it's not foolish but wise that I can get so excited about experiments demonstrating a transfer of information constantly carried on between living things?  And among those forms are thoughts–simply another aspect of transmitted energy.

I love thinking about the whole bag of thoughts and prayers and intentions!  If such things are not merely the private, self-contained workings of an individual brain, seems like we can no longer view ourselves as isolated from our environment.  And maybe, just maybe, if thoughts and judgments have a distinct effect beyond what goes on between our own two ears, we'll need to rethink not only what it is to be human, but also how to relate. 

I can recognize the glimmers about power-of-thought that underpin many well-accepted disciplines, from orthodox and alternative medicine to competitive sport, no longer the bizarre ruminations of a few eccentrics.  What if we are only beginning to understand a vast and untapped human potential, something essential that might be every person's birthright, not simply that of the gifted master.  What a simple and inexhaustible way to focus our lives, heal our illnesses, alter global perspective.  Imagine it intensified by a multiple of more than one!  (Gaia, right?)

Seems like native traditions and ancient beliefs got there before us.  To be “alive” may be far more than walking around as a collection of chemicals and electrical signaling.  In native traditions there's this intuitive understanding of the power of thoughts and belief and intentions and prayer, relying on a unified energy field not unlike the Zero Point Field of quantum physics, a unified field that holds everything in the universe in an invisible web. 

I believe, passionately, in the essential goodness in life, a life in which everything is given away, a life that is fluid transferred expanding, nothing left frozen or frigid, nothing hoarded up or allowed to rust and get mothy.  A life of empty, open hands, and an open heart willing to give and able to receive.
